Poplar Runes

Set of Elder Futhark Runes made from poplar wood. Each Rune is burned into the wood.

Also known as The Germanic Futhark - this is the oldest form of The Runic Alphabet. It was a writing system used by Germanic tribes for Northwest Germanic dialects in the Migration Period, the dates of which are debated among scholars. Runic Inscriptions are found on artifacts - jewelry, amulets, tools, weapons, and - of course - Runestones from the 2nd to the 8th centuries.

The Elder Futhark (named after the initial phoneme of the first six rune names: F, U, Þ, A, R, and K) has 24 runes, often arranged in three groups of eight runes. Set also includes a blank Rune ["Wyrd" - Fate/Destiny], an addition made in The '80s.
